This business wasn’t something I stumbled into.
It grew from decades of hands-on work, high standards, and one simple belief:

Where It All Started

I began my career in residential construction and interior remodeling in the mid-’90s, back when craftsmanship still meant something. I had the privilege of learning from talented tradespeople in flooring, tile, carpentry, and renovation — people who taught me to slow down, pay attention, and take pride in every detail.

I gravitated toward interior finish work early on. I loved the precision, the creativity, and the transformation it brought to a home.

But as the years went on, I noticed something important:

Homeowners weren’t just looking for skill —
they were looking for someone they could trust.

Someone reliable.
Someone who communicated.
Someone who showed up.
Someone who treated their home with respect.

And that’s when the real story began.

Becoming a Business Owner

In 1999, I became a Licensed Flooring Contractor in California. I never set out to be anyone’s “go-to guy,” but clients started saying things like:

• “I wish we’d found you sooner.”

• “It’s so nice to finally not worry about who to call.”

• “You’re our guy now.”

• “You know you’re different from every contractor we’ve worked with, right?”

That feedback opened my eyes — not to who I was, but to what people truly needed.

In 2001, I relocated to the Southeast and became a service provider for major big-box stores. That move allowed me to scale my business far beyond what I ever imagined. Before selling it in 2019, we had grown into one of the most prominent installation and remodeling service providers in the Piedmont Triad, handling:

• Flooring installation

• Millwork

• Kitchen and bathroom remodels

Over 18 years, the company grew from myself and one helper into:

• 35+ installation crews

• 5 estimators

• 10 office staff

• Over $4 million in annual revenue

It was exciting… and exhausting.

Scaling the business meant I spent less time doing the work I loved, and more time acting as an “accidental CEO” responsible for hundreds of projects a year and a lot of people depending on me.

I gained valuable experience — and a stack of credentials (Licensed Flooring Contractor, Licensed General Contractor, Licensed Home Inspector, Certified LRRP Renovator). But more importantly, I learned what truly set me apart:

I genuinely cared about my clients’ entire experience — not just the end result.

That level of care was surprisingly rare in the service industry, and it became the defining trait of my company.

I was eventually asked to consult for other contractors who wanted help improving their businesses. While rewarding, it added even more stress — and I realized it wasn’t the life I wanted long-term.
